Batumi Music Center, a popular venue for art and music events in Batumi, hosted a special ceremony on Friday, where 452 students from across the region were given a personal computer each.
The students, who are public school pupils, completed the basic level last academic year and achieved a step score of 10 points without rounding.
The computers were given as part of the “My First Computer” program, annually implemented by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia and the Agency for Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development. The program aims to motivate students and strengthen learning methods based on information and communication technologies.
The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia attended the ceremony, as did the Director of the Agency for Educational and Scientific Infrastructure Development, the Mayor of Batumi, and the Director of the Batumi Music Center.
They congratulated the students on their achievements and encouraged them to use the computers for their educational and personal development.
The Batumi Music Center, reconstructed in 2011 by the architect Vladimir Khmaladze, has a capacity of 1100 seats in the main auditorium and presents over 150 concerts and events every year, from classical music and opera to traditional folk dance and film.
It is also home to the Batumi State Symphony Orchestra, the Batumi State Capella, the Ballet Troupe of Batumi State Opera and Ballet Theater, and the Musical Theater for Children and Adolescents.
The “My First Computer” program, launched in 2010, has distributed over 100,000 computers to students across Georgia. The program is part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of education and increase access to information and communication technologies in the country. The program also provides training and support for teachers and students on using computers effectively.
The students who received the computers expressed gratitude and excitement, saying they would use them for their studies, hobbies, and communication. They also said they look forward to attending more events at the Batumi Music Center.
