Sachkheri Municipality hosts final event of Environmental Protection Week

Georgia: The final event of Environmental Protection Week was held in the yard of Akaki Tsereteli House Museum in Sachkheri Municipality. During the week, the main message was “Protecting the nature of my country,” and a competition of the same name was held for school students.

Environmental Protection Week was implemented on the initiative of the Agency of Protected Areas, within the framework of the ongoing program “Save Nature-Georgia”. This program, a collaborative effort between the governments of Georgia and Sweden, aims to preserve and protect Georgia’s unique natural heritage, promote sustainable development, and raise awareness about environmental issues among the public.

As part of the project, pupils of different schools in Sachkheri municipality had the opportunity to participate in a contest and present their works on the topic – “Protecting the Nature of My Country” in the form of essay, photo-picture or painting. For instance, one student wrote a compelling essay on the importance of preserving Georgia’s unique flora and fauna, while another created a stunning photo picture capturing the beauty of a local river. Territorial administrations of the Agency of Protected Areas joined the week, which carried out various eco-educational activities.

Yuri Nozadze, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, and Project Manager Natia Beridze, Head of the Central Implementation Unit of the Program “Save Nature-Georgia,” attended the event.

“The main goal of the activities carried out during the Environment Protection Week is to enable our future generations to know and fall in love with the unique nature and biodiversity of Georgia at an early age.”

To achieve this goal, the Ministry of the Environment and Agriculture and the Agency of Protected Areas, in a strong collaborative effort, have carried out a number of events, including various eco-education activities, lectures, seminars, and competitions. I am glad that the pupils are interested; we saw their extraordinary works, in which they expressed their attitude and love towards the nature of Georgia,” Yuri Nozadze noted.
