Tbilisi, Georgia: The National Academy of Sciences of Georgia and the Institute of History and Ethnology of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University hosted a presentation of two new books by academician David Muskhelishvili, a prominent scholar of Georgian history and culture.

The books, titled “Historical Geography of Georgia” and “Atlas of History of Georgia”, were published by the publisher “Artanuj” in Georgian and English languages, with the translation by Lado Mirianashvili.

The books result from decades of research by Muskhelishvili, a member of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences and the nephew of the late Georgian-French political scientist and jurist Michel Mouskhely.

The event was opened by the president of the Academy, academician Roin Metreveli, who praised Muskhelishvili’s contribution to the study of Georgian history and geography. He also highlighted the importance of the books for the education and awareness of the Georgian public and the international community.

Among the speakers were Metropolitan of Chiaturi and Sachkhere, Bishop Daniel (Datuashvili), who spoke about the role of the Virgin Mary in the Georgian Orthodox Church and the tradition of her adoration; Director of the Institute of History and Ethnology David Cheishvili, who reviewed the main topics and arguments of the books; and several professors and experts who discussed the historical, geographical and cultural aspects of the books.

The book “Historical Geography of Georgia” covers the development of feudal Georgia from ancient times to the 10th century and the social processes that shaped its history. The book “Atlas of History of Georgia” contains maps illustrating the Georgian territory’s historical and geographical study and regions.

The presentation coincided with the 95th anniversary of academician David Muskhelishvili, who was born on October 19, 1928, in Tbilisi. Muskhelishvili has published over 180 works on various aspects of Georgian history, culture and religion. He is also the editor and co-author of the “Atlas of Georgian History” published in 2003.
