Founder of media groups charged for assault on Georgian police

In a recent significant development founder of Georgian media outfits have been charged for assault on police officer.  This is latest crackdown against the media houses by authorities.

Tbilisi: In a recent significant development founder of Georgian media outfits have been charged for assault on police officer.  This is latest crackdown against the media houses by authorities.

As per the initial reports the law enforcement agencies have charged founder of Georgian media outlets Netgazeti and Batumelebi. The name of the founder of these media channels is Mzia Amaglobeli. He was charged on last Monday.

The reports underlined his role in violence at Batumi. In this violent attack a police officer was injured in the Batumi city of the western Georgia. The police officer was deployed at rally to maintain the law-and-order situation and keep it under control.

It is also worth to note that the Amaglobeli’ lawyer Juba Katamadze on other hand defended his client. He while speaking about innocence of his client defended his right of self defence and said that police officer has been injured when his client was defending himself.

According to his lawyer the defence arguments will be presented in the court. They expressed hope that Georgan legal system will take the serious note of his right of self-defence.

It is also to be added that he was initially arrested on the administrative grounds. The proviso of administrative laws was imposed against the accused. The above-mentioned rally was held against the decision of Georgian Dream led government.

She was releases once but was arrested again by law enforcer agencies. The large number of peoples are protesting the decision of the Georgian ruling party on European Union accession talks.

Notably the Georgian Dream led government has announced to suspend talked of Georgia integration in the European Union until 2028. The last year was very turbulent for ruling party Georgian Dream.

The party faced backlash initially against the backdrop of foreign agents law adoption. The law was adopted to regulate the foreign funding of NGOs.
