Georgia: The French scientist delegation visited the multi-year crop trial demonstration Jighuara base of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center (SRCA). The visit was organized by the Bolero group, with members including Vakhtan Karichashvili, Irakli Bekauri, and wine experts from the French cognac department.

The main aim of the visit of the French delegation, organized by the Bolero Group was to get acquainted with Georgian viticulture and winemaking and future cooperation.

The Scientific Research Center of Agriculture posted glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook page on April 17, 2025, Thursday. Along with the photographs, SRCA also posted some details about the meeting discussions.

According to SRCA’s post, it should be noted that a delegation of scientists from the field of agroecology, physiology, and microbiology of French vineyard-winery visited Jighaura, the multi-year crop trial-demonstration base of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center.

It is worth mentioning that the director of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center, Levan Ujmajuridze familiarized the members of the delegation about important projects implemented and ongoing by the Center. Special interest was raised by the pickings of local vine varieties, where up to 1000 genotypes are represented.

Notably, Levan Ujmajuridze concentrated on the significance of agroforestry crops and Khekhilovani crops kept in Jighaura’s collecting gardens, as well as the special genetic resources of grapes, in maintaining biodiversity.

A memorandum was signed between the Scientific and Research Center of Agriculture and the National Institute of Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE). During the memorandum signing ceremony, the parties talked about future cooperative international projects, such as the extensive ampelographic works in the collections of Jighaura and France’s Vassal (Montpellier), as well as the expansion of databases about the construction of a new trial plot.

At the end of the meeting, the members of the French Scientist delegation tasted wine samples made from local varieties of grapes preserved in the Jighaura Collectorative Nargaoba. The tasting was organized by the staff of the Vineyard-Winery of the Scientific Research Center of Georgia.
