Tbilisi: The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency revealed the latest data about consumer rights protection applications.
According to the latest data the agency has considered 1300 applications for consumer protection rights.
It is worth noting that the GCCA considered these 1300 rights for two years. The Georgian Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) publishes two-year statistics based on the results obtained in the direction of consumer rights protection.
According to the statistical data received more than 80% of cases are resolved in favour of the consumers. The percentage of applicants by gender is 70% women and 30% men. 65% of the applications received by the consumers refer to online trade and 35% to purchasing the item on the spot.
During the mentioned period, according to the decision of GCCA, 126 violations of the consumer group’s rights were confirmed in 222 cases.
Moreover in 304 cases, 219 agreements were signed for the benefit of the consumer, which means that the traders undertook to change their internal policy and restore the rights of those consumers who were allegedly harmed as a result of their trading policy.
Due to the non-fulfillment of the obligation imposed by GCCA 55 traders were fined in 95 cases, a total of  66,184 GEL. Similarly up to 600,000 GEL was compensated in favor of the customer.
However, according to data from the reporting period the violation was not confirmed in 7 cases. In the two-year reporting period 70% of the cases were in the wholesale and retail trade sector, 14% were in transport and warehousing, 4% were in art, entertainment and recreation and 12% were in other activities.
According to the applications submitted by the users to the agency, 442 were registered for a refund request, 417 for the repair or return of the defective item, 119 for the restoration of the right to defective service, 70 for the prohibition of misleading activities, 63 for the delivery of goods within the specified period, 59 for the unconditional return of the item and 125 for the rest.
