The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia once again issued a strict warning to the protestor. These protestors are holding rallies against the proposed foreign influence bill usually termed as the “Russian law” by the protestors and the opposition parties of the country.
Just a few days ago the ministry official warned the protestor not the resort to any violent acts during the protest but ignored the protestor. Now one more time the ministry while reacting strongely said that protesters should not misuse the freedom of speech and expression while opposing the bill in their protests.
The ministry took to its social media handle and posted in a Facebook post that “ The participants of the demonstration on Rustaveli Avenue, near the Parliament building have already exceeded the limits of freedom of expression and peaceful assembly law and became violent.”
Although several calls from police officers were issued to stay calm and peaceful, protesters are not complying with law enforcement officers’ legal demands. Demonstrators are verbally and physically confronting law enforcement officers, as well as shooting various objects at them in violation of legal provisions as well added Facebook post.
The official representatives of the internal ministry said that due to violence created by the protests they are now constrained to take strict legal action against the responsible for the violence. They further added that once again we call on the organizers of the rally, political party leaders, and participants to obey the instructions and direction of the law enforcers.
According to them the Ministry will study all the unlawful activities that occurred during the rally and take the appropriate legal action as per the relevant provisons of the Georgia law.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the people have been demanding the abolition of the proposed bill. According to the bill the civil organization getting an amount above than certain limit will be registered as an institution under foreign influence. However the opposition parties are demanding that this will place several restrictions that will make the working of civil groups impossible.
