Georgia: The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Mikheil Chkhenkeli inaugurated a sports and health festival, which was held at the 41st Grushevski Tbilisi Public School with the participation of Georgian and Ukrainian students.

Georgian Education Minister, together with Olympic champion Shota Khabareli, met the participants of the festival and wished them successful participation in sports activities.

Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Today, a very interesting sports event was held for students at Tbilisi Public School No. 41, where the Ukrainian sector was established by the decision of the Prime Minister. Both Ukrainian and Georgian teenagers took part in the activities. It is very important that students engage in a variety of activities in an informal setting to get to know each other better and make friends.”

He also spoke about improving sports infrastructure in schools. He said the government is taking special care of the development of school sports infrastructure – all newly built and rehabilitated schools are provided with appropriate sports infrastructure. Along with this, both school stadiums, sports halls and equipment are being equipped continuously, as well as training of sports teachers with new modern standards.

The festival held at the 41st Public School of Tbilisi was held on the initiative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, with the financial support of the City of Tbilisi City Hall and organized by the National Association of Sports, Fitness and Physical Education. Nearly 200 Georgian and Ukrainian students participated. Partners of the event are Georgian Volleyball, Badminton and Volleyball National Federations and Tbilisi Karate Federation.

The event included games such as volleyball and karate, competitions in football, volleyball, badminton and table tennis.

By the decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Gharibashvili, the Ministry established the Ukrainian-language sector at the 41st Grushevsky Public School in Tbilisi, where the learning process is conducted in the Ukrainian language from the first to the eleventh grades. Ukrainian students have the opportunity to receive general education using the same curriculum and textbooks with which they studied in Ukrainian schools. In addition, they study Georgian language and literature and the subject “My Georgia”.

The initiative of the Georgian Government helped Ukrainian students to get enrolled in Georgian schools in a simplified manner. At this time, 700 Ukrainian students are studying in different public and private schools all over the country. Of these, 300 students continue their studies in the Ukrainian language sector.
