Tbilisi: With the support of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, the French Institute of Georgia and the Embassies of France and Switzerland, various educational events will be held in March on the occasion of the French language and Francophone holiday.

The official opening event of the Francophone Month was held at the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, with the participation of Deputy Minister of Education and Science Nunu Mickiewicz, Ambassador of France to Georgia Sheraz Gasri, Deputy Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Georgia Urs Beer and Director of the National Center for Teachers’ Professional Development

Within the framework of the event, the award ceremony for the best French language teacher was also held. The title of the best teacher of the French language was awarded to Kakhaber Fartsvania, a teacher of the Third Public School of Zugdidi, who was awarded the honorary award – the best teacher’s chest badge, a relevant certificate and a planchet.

It is noteworthy that with the support of the French Institute of Georgia, the winning teacher will undergo a two-week pedagogical internship in France.

At the official opening event of the Francophone Month, Nunu Mickiewicz addressed the guests, wished the winning teacher success and thanked the representatives of the French and Swiss Confederations for many years of cooperation and support.

Nunu Mickiewicz: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the confederation governments of France and Switzerland for their support in the fields of education and science and many years of cooperation.”

I am glad that we have continued the tradition and celebrate Francophone Month with general and higher education institutions for more than 20 years, by which Georgian Francophones and not only them, every year, have the opportunity to rediscover Francophone and French-language culture.

Particularly interesting are the two main themes of this year’s Francophone Month events: sport and gender equality. I think increasing the involvement of women and girls in any sport and physical activity is particularly important.

It is symbolic that today, we awarded Mr Kakhaber Fartsvania, the winner of the best French language teacher award at the opening of Francophone month. I would like to congratulate Mr. Kakhaber on his victory and wish him success in his future endeavors. “

It is noteworthy that in the framework of Francophone 2023, the French Institute will hold an open day for better understanding of French culture and French language, where French-language films will be shown, Geronti Kikodze’s Literary Prize for the best Georgian translation of French-language novel, the pres of French-linguistic literature works translated into Georgian Sport and educational school activities are held and Other.

Also, on the occasion of the Francophone month, competitions will be held traditionally for pupils and students.

The holiday of French language and Francophone is traditionally celebrated in the world on March 20 every year. Georgia has been a member of the International Francophone Organization since 2004.
