The first working meeting of the Agrarian Education Coordination Council was held. The meeting was held at the   Environmental Information and Education Center of Georgia.

It is to be specifically mentioned that the main goal of creating the Agrarian Education Coordination Council is to support the creation of a farmer’s network. That dedicated farmer network will be there for knowledge sharing and strengthening the Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation System (AKIS) of the country.

At this significant meeting participants have discussed the challenges that exist in providing information and raising awareness among the farmers.

The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture has long worked to strengthen Georgia’s agriculture sector. The government also provides heavy subsidies to purchasers of farming implements. Similarly many policies and programs have also been introduced to improve the condition of Georgian farmers.

It is noteworthy that the Agrarian Education Coordination Council of Georgia is creating a project. The name of the project is “Modernization of the Vocational Education System in Georgia’s Agriculture VET (Phase 3)”.

This project is being implemented by the SPC Center for Environmental Information and Education of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture. The project is also being funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

The project aims to support the extension of Georgian agriculture and the development of educational services in allover the country .

The attendees of the meeting gave valuable suggestions. They stressed that to ensure the country’s food security, the government needs to support the farmers.
