A decision made by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli stated that for the first time in Georgia, native language teachers of non-Georgian-speaking schools were given the opportunity to improve their competence, which will not only help them to gain status but also directly affect their salary.

The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Tamar Makharashvili, together with the head of the National Center for Evaluation and Examinations, Sofio Gorgodze, familiarized himself with the examination process for Azerbaijani-speaking teachers at the examination centre of the N117 school. Tamar Makharashvili wished success to the teachers and expressed hope that each of them will show the best result in the exam.

It should be emphasized that, unlike the exam for teachers of Georgian-language schools, non-Georgian-speaking teachers did not have the opportunity to pass the exam in their native language until now, which put them in an unequal position compared to other teachers. However, due to the efforts of the Ministry, the issue was completely resolved, and as a result, all dismissed teachers will change their status, which will lead to an increase in their salary.

About 380 teachers will pass the exam in the Azerbaijani language examination centres this year. They will be considered to have successfully passed the exam if they get more than 60% (43 points) of the maximum score (70 points).

Moreover, subject exams for teachers of Azerbaijani and Armenian languages were prepared by the National Center for Evaluation and Examinations by the decision of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.

The National Center for Teachers’ Professional Development has developed training modules for teachers of both Azerbaijani and Armenian languages and literature for teachers’ exams.

The purpose of the training modules is to familiarize teachers with the structure and techniques of the subject exam of the Azerbaijani/Armenian language, to mobilize the subject and methodical knowledge necessary for teaching the Azerbaijani/Armenian language, and to familiarize the teachers with the standard of minority languages provided by the national curriculum.

After Azerbaijani teachers, on July 20, Armenian-speaking teachers will pass the exam.
