Tbilisi:Â Grigol Liluashvili the head of the Georgian State Security Service held a meeting with Ann Montavon. Ann Montavon is the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Georgia.
The head of the state security service also met with Anie Kotu the Special Representative of the Red Cross for Missing Persons in the Caucasus region as well. It is to be specifically mentioned that at the meeting both sides discussed the cooperation between Georgia and the International Committee of the Red Cross for the human rights.Â
It discussed the various humanitarian efforts made by the organization in the Republic of Georgia especially those made to support the population living in the occupied territories of Georgia and victims of the Russian-Georgian war.Â
At the same time both sides also discussed the environment created along the occupied territories and the occupation line and the challenges present.
Similarly the emphasis was placed on the severe humanitarian situation in occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions and the necessity of unrestricted access to the International Committee of the Red Cross in the occupied regions including visits to illegally detained Georgians.
The effective cooperation in the search and identification of missing persons and highly appreciated the involvement of the International Committee of the Red Cross in this process was also discussed among the parties on this occasion.
As per the head humantarian agency the ICRC’s role in protecting human rights in conflict zones is very important. He further highlighted the mutual cooperation between Georgia and the International Committee of the Red Cross to prevent human rights violations in Russian-occupied territories as well.Â
Special attention was paid to the issue of the unconditional release of Georgian citizens illegally imprisoned in the occupied regions. It was agreed that the detention of Georgian citizens is a grave violation of human rights as well as a violation of international humanitarian law.
On the other hand the representative of the ICRC also supported the unconditional release of Georgian citizens in the Russian-occupied territories and assured Georgia of every possible assistance.Â
