Tbilisi: The Chairman of the Department of Highways, Giorgi Tsereteli, held a briefing at the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia on the reasons of stopping traffic on the Ricotti section and opening the road.
“Given the public interest in restoring traffic on the Ricotti section, we have decided to provide the public with full and detailed information on the situation in that section.”
On March 30, the traffic on the Ricotti section and switched to the Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura-Zestafoni road; this situation was caused by extreme necessity because, as a result of the melting of snow, near the road, about 200 meters, there have been snow processes.
As a result of the corresponding observation, the trend of growth of markets and development of irrigation processes on this area has been revealed. Therefore, after observation of specialists and their recommendation, we decided to limit the movement of road transport on the Ricotti section,” – said Giorgi Tsereteli
At this stage, the 149 km road widening work of Ricotti has been completed, the road paving for relevant geological studies is underway, geological, geophysical studies by international and local specialists are actively underway.
The preliminary results will be known by the end of the week, after which both danger levels and the possibility of resuming vehicle traffic.
Giorgi Tsereteli spoke at the briefing about the condition of the Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura-Zestafoni road and the reasons for delays in movement in this direction.
“As for the 109 km section of Gomi-Sachkhere-Chiatura-Zestafoni, on which road traffic is currently switched, at this stage only 109 km road and only 6 km are being planned rehabilitation works.
Specifically, during winter, the rehabilitation of damaged road cover and damaged places is carried out, which prevents traffic and delays movement only and only on this 6 km stretch.
“For this inconvenience, the Department of Highways once again apologizes to the population, passengers, drivers of vehicles,” said Giorgi Tsereteli.
