At the presentation of the Prime Minister of Georgia and the Speaker of the Parliament, the Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili awarded the members of the National Figure Skaters Team of Georgia and the representatives of the Figure Skating Federation with the Order of Honor.
State awards were given to laureates for their special contribution to the construction of the Georgian state and historical sporting achievement. The wife of the President of Georgia, Tamar Bagrationi, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, Speaker of Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, and representatives of executive and legislative authorities were present at the Presidential Palace.
As President Kavelashvili noted in his speech, their outstanding athletes have achieved great success at the Winter Olympics 2026 in Milan. “Congratulations and thank you to their coaches, federation representatives, and everyone who helped our athletes achieve this success,” he added.
Together with his wife and members of the Georgian delegation, he had the opportunity to attend the opening of the Olympics in Milan and support the athletes.
The Georgian President also mentioned, “It’s a pride that our small but dignified and talented country was represented among the big countries. We are proud that our team has achieved such great success. Our Luka and Anastasia, for the first time in the history of Georgian winter sports, managed to win an Olympic medal.”
In his speech, the President emphasized that in the life of athletes, there are always successes and failures, victories and defeats. They never let an athlete down; they always stand in solidarity to keep them moving and succeed.
Mikheil Kavelashvili noted that, unfortunately, forces were trying to damage the process, injure the athletes, bring on the confrontation, but they could not. Altogether, the community, the athletes, and the state did our best to tackle this challenge and win.
He also thanked the Prime Minister, the Speaker of the Parliament, and the team. By presenting them, he had the honor to award our outstanding athletes and their representatives with the Medal of Honor.
