Georgia: Within the framework of the changes implemented in the Law on Grapes and Wine, a working meeting on new mechanisms of regulating the field was held.
The meeting was attended by Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center, Levan Mekhuzla, Chairman of the National Wine Agency, and field specialists.
The Scientific Research Center for Agriculture (SRCA) of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its official Facebook Page on March 27, 2026, Friday. The Agricultural Research Centre also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.
Special attention was given to the issues of practical implementation of legislative changes, including new approaches to regulating industrial vineyards and mechanisms to strengthen quality control in the field.
At the meeting, the location of the newly built vineyard areas, the characteristics of the soil, and the right selection of quality characteristics of the grape seedlings and other important issues were discussed.
It was noted that the use of healthy grape seedlings is critical for the sustainable development of the field, which means protecting the purity of the species and phytosanitary hygiene.
In this regard, the Scientific and Research Center of SIP Agriculture is responsible for the evaluation and certification of grape material. The activities of the Center include identifying the variety, health status, and compliance with current standards of the vineyard, which is one of the main prerequisites for growing a quality vineyard.
These regulations will promote the proper planting of new industrial vineyards, which will ensure quality grapes and thus improve wine quality.
According to the changes implemented in the law, from May 1, 2026, the industrial vineyard will be possible to be planted only based on the agreement issued by the National Agency for Wine of SP. This request applies to all entities planning to grow vineyards for commercial purposes.
