Georgia: With the support of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and the Swiss Embassy, national anti-trafficking training is being launched in Georgia. The training is part of the project “Fighting Trafficking in Human Beings: Sustainability of Interagency Cooperation through National Simulation Training”, which aims to raise awareness against trafficking and train professionals.

Training for investigators, prosecutors, labour inspectors, psychologists, social workers, and victim staff will help them develop practical skills that will facilitate the timely investigation of human trafficking, the punishment of perpetrators, and the effective rehabilitation of victims.

Georgia is one of the first countries in the region where this training is introduced. The implementation of the project once again emphasizes the priority of the fight against human trafficking in our country. In this regard, Georgia has one of the leading positions at the international level.

According to the US State Department’s latest 2021 report on trafficking, Georgia still maintains its place next to the European Union and several Western European countries in the first basket. It meets international standards for combating this crime. It is also noteworthy that, as in previous years, in the 2021 report, only Georgia was ranked highest among the Eastern Partnership countries.

Georgia’s success in the fight against human trafficking is the result of coordinated and consistent policies implemented by the Inter-Agency Council for Anti-Trafficking, created by the Minister of Justice.

The project “Fight against Human Trafficking: Sustainability of Interagency Cooperation through National Simulation Training” was opened today by Deputy Minister of Justice Beka Dzamashvili. The event was attended by the OSCE Special Representative and Coordinator for Human Trafficking, Mr. Valiant Ritchie; Deputy Ambassador of Switzerland to Georgia, Mr. Urs Bier; Also representatives of government agencies, non-governmental and international organizations and embassies.
