Tbilisi: According to the decision of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia and the participants of the Georgian Festival of Leuville, church hymns and mourning music were performed at Leuville homeland to commemorate the souls of those who died as a result of natural disaster in Oni municipality on August 3.
The concerts scheduled for 5 and 6 August at the Festival dedicated to Georgian Arts and Culture in the historical homeland of Leuville were also cancelled.
Instead of the cancelled concert program, the ensemble “Basian” and Kutaisi chamber choir honoured the memory of the dead with church hymns and mourning music.
Additionally, the Dmanisi State Theater, named after Zinaida Kverenchkhiladze, dedicated two plays to the tragedy – “Khalde” and “My Pen” (directed by Giorgi Sikharulidze).
The representatives of the Georgian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in Leuville, artists and Georgian emigrants living in France expressed their support to the affected families and paid tribute to the memory of those who died as a result of natural disasters.
On the initiative of the Georgian Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and with the support of the Georgian Government, from July 29 to August 20, every weekend, a festival dedicated to Georgian arts and culture will be held in the historical homeland of Leuville, which will be attended free of charge by everyone.
Notably, the Leuville Homeland will host its first cycle of cultural events since the 20s, but the Festival’s schedule was changed on August 3 due to the tragedy that took place at the resort in Oni.
On August 12 and 13, the concert of Georgian dance will not be held, and instead, the choir of Trinity Cathedral Church will perform Georgian hymns.
