Three years have passed since the tragedy in Shovi. First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili, once again expressed her condolences to the families of the deceased and noted that the tragedy that occurred on August 3, 2023, is a heavy loss for every citizen.

According to Nino Tandilashvili, after the incident in the show, several unverified pieces of information and speculations were spread in society, which is why it was important for the state to give an exhaustive answer to each question.

“Three years have passed since the Shaw tragedy. During this period, a number of false information and speculations have been spread. The government did everything to ensure that each question had a comprehensive answer. That is why, together with Georgian specialists, we have involved foreign experts in the process, including one of the world’s leading Swiss companies, who evaluated the events that developed in the show and prepared high-quality conclusions. The findings confirmed that this was an unprecedented-scale elemental rock quarry process, which developed in a very short time and resulted in large-scale elemental quarrying. The same conclusion emphasizes that neither any engineering-construction solution nor a modern horn system could prevent this element. This is a public document, and the society has the opportunity to fully know its content, – said Nino Tandilashvili.

According to the statement of the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, the state has significantly strengthened its work to prevent natural processes.

The Minister noted, “With the involvement of Swiss experts, an unprecedented survey of Georgia’s glacial valleys has been carried out, potential risk areas have been identified, and modern monitoring systems have already been deployed.” “I would like to emphasize that, according to international experts, no location has recommended the placement of horn or alarm systems, ” she added.

“The process of implementation of monitoring systems is in active mode and will continue in the coming years, so that the state has complete information about the processes in glacial valleys,” said Nino Tandilashvili.
