Recently in order to get acquainted with the changes in the Georgian law on “Personal Data Protection” the representatives of the Maritime Transport Agency held a meeting with representatives of the Personal Data Protection Agency of country.
The significant meeting was attended by the parties involved in the process of digitization of port services. The meeting was attended by the representatives of Maritime Transport Agency as well as of the Georgian Ports, Terminal Operators, Ship Agents, Revenue Service, Hydrography, National Environmental Protection Agency and Border Police.
It is noteworthy that both the Maritime Single Window (NMSW), and the Port Merging System (PCS) includes in it receiving and processing of personal and special data.
This personal data includes the crew list, passenger list, health declaration and others. Therefore it is very important for the users involved in the system to introduce the new requirements of the “personal data protection” law.
On this occasion the discussion between both sides also touched upon a wide range of issues such as the approximation of the existing European Union legislation in the field of personal data protection (GDPR), the consolidation of the standard and the guarantee of privacy, the legal basis for processing of special categories of data, the establishment of minimum criteria for processing the data with legality, Right to receive information, access data and obtain a copy, personal data protection ,the role of an officer in public agencies and more.
Otar Chakhunashvili the Deputy Head of Personal Data Protection Service and Senior Lawyer of the same Service namely Lili Taniashvili introduced the participants in detail about the changes in the law and answered questions of the participants.
All the participants shared their valuable thoughts with each other. They emphasized that there should be strict punishment for all those who tries to breach or violate any data related to personal information of any individual.
