Tbilisi: Georgia‘s Ministry of Regional development and infrastructure has vowed an investment of up to 3 billion GEL in infrastructure development, which is the historical maximum. Highway construction remains a priority. Next year, more than 1 billion 200 million GEL will be spent on the construction of highways, and as a result of this investment, both in Ricoti and many other sections will be completed.Â
By the end of 2024, all major sections of the highway will be completed.
Highway construction progress is increasing. At this stage, construction works are underway on 118 km of the highway. Works continue intensively on Ricoti, where 51 tunnels and 97 bridges are being built. Also, construction of the Samtredia-Grigoleti, Grigoleti-Kobuleti, Batumi bypass, and Upper Ossiauri-Chumateleti sections is underway.
Notable progress is being made on the historical project of Kesheti-Kobe, which is of importance to both regional and international relations. A 9 km unique tunnel is being built, which is already dug at a depth of 3300 meters, and the process continues.
 Also, there are intensive works on 35 km of Kakheti highway; tender procedures are underway to build the Sagarejo-Badiauri section. In addition, the next year’s budget envisages road rehabilitation, which will not only have international but also domestic roads in compliance with international road safety norms and standards.
Undergoing large-scale projects will ensure the development of the International Highway Midway, which, following recent developments, is gaining momentum.
According to “Vision 2030”, developed on the initiative of the Prime Minister, 32 billion GEL has been invested in the development of infrastructure. From this, 17 billion will be used for road infrastructure development.
520 million GEL for the development of water infrastructure is a truly unprecedented and historical maximum of the budget in this direction. Actually, this is the budget prepared by the government under the country’s development vision that will enable 24 hours water to all cities by the end of 2025.
The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure will provide 520 million GEL allocated for water supply and water infrastructure construction projects by the end of 2025. Water supply and reservoir projects are actively underway at 201 locations, and under these projects, approximately 600,000 people will get access to water.
Work will continue at a higher pace next year, and as a whole, Ministry plans to have standard water across the country by 2023. Of course this is important, especially in areas where there has never been centralized, standardized water supply, stated the officials.
“Implementing these projects will contribute significantly to providing our citizens with an improved water supply and at the same time will create new opportunities for development in these locations”, stated Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Irakli Karseladze during his talks about the 2023 budget of the Ministry.
