According to the latest information, a new project namely the Women Mentorship in Tech Programmes has been launched in the country. This is a European Union-funded initiative that was launched on Friday, March 22.
The new women’s mentorship project aims to enhance digital human capital in Georgia with a special focus on girls and women. It also aims to enhance gender equality in the information and communications technology industry of Georgia as well.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the launch event of the EU-supported project which is being coordinated and implemented by Business and Technology University saw participation from various stakeholders. These include experts and interested individuals committed to promoting gender equality and digital inclusion in Georgia as well as representatives from Government agencies and civil society organisations.
It is to be noted that the event which covered various topics related to the project’s objectives was addressed by the EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczyński. The other notable people who addressed were the Georgian Education Minister Giorgi Amilakhvari and Nino Tsilosani, the Chair of the Permanent Parliamentary Gender Equality Council as well as Žydrūnė Vitaitė the co-founder of Women Go Tech Lithuania.
While addressing the EU Ambassador stated that “he was proud to support the Women Mentorship in Tech Programmes project as part of the EU’s commitment to promoting gender equality and digital inclusion”.
He also added “Through these kinds of projects the bloc aimed to “bridge the skills gap” in the ICT sector. These initiatives will also empower women to thrive in the digital age and ultimately contribute to Georgia’s economic growth and stability”.
At the same time “Women Mentorship in Tech Programmes aims to engage 1,100 beneficiaries and 320 mentors over the three seasons. To promote regional diversity it will select at least one-third of participants from regions outside the capital”.
It is also worth noting that the bloc’s representation in the country highlighted the five-month-long mentorship sessions that would be organised in five key tech sectors. These five sector includes the cybersecurity, front-end development, graphic design, digital marketing, and UX/UI design. The initiative is aligned with both the EU Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2025 and the Gender Action Plan.
