Nodar Papukashvili, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia and World Bank Regional Director Roland Price, opened the STEAM extracurricular program at the 126th public school in Tbilisi. Programs have been opened with the aim to boost the interest of school children in the study of science subjects.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the STEAM extra-curricular program with the right resources, equipment and furniture is being supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia.
Moreover the program has been launched with the support of the World Bank within the framework of the project “Innovation, Inclusion and Quality”.
The goal of creating the STEAM extracurricular program is to enhance students’ interest in teaching science subjects in schools especially girls students which will later transform them into their career choices in the science stream.
It is to be added that together with the 126th public school of Tbilisi this STEAM extra-curricular program was organised in the 5th public school of Zugdidi also.
Sometimes the workspaces have special challenges because the Schools must ensure the implementation of the extracurricular programs proposed under this project and share activities with other pilot schools.
The workspaces are also equipped with a videoconferencing system which enables online interaction with other schools and various joint events and activities.
The STEAM extracurricular program has already been implemented in 80 schools on a pilot basis and will be fully implemented in 200 schools by the end of the 2024-2025 academic year.
It is to be added further that the central government has already implemented many project to motivate the students for the study of science. Many schemes and projects are also proposed for providing financial assistance to the schools and colleges that want to expand the areas of science study.
Moreover, the study’s latest subject is being promoted with these projects as well.
