The prosecutor’s office of the Republic of Georgia has charged one person for cruelty towards animals. The act of cruel treatment of an animal led to its death.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the initial inquiry was conducted in this regard by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Georgia as well. And as a result of the investigation carried out by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was established that in the month of February in the village of Tserovani which falls under the Mtskheti municipality, the minor accused caused many injuries to the dog. He has severely sneezed on his “pit bull” breed dog, which caused the death of the animal.
As the country has strict rules to tackle the crime against the animals the minor was charged under the third part of Article 259 of the Criminal Code of Georgia. These provisions of the Georgia law deal with the cruel treatment of an animal that caused its death.
It is to be added further that the prosecutor’s office applies to the court of law with a motion to apply a preventive measure to the accused within the time limit set by the law. This request has been made to the court of law so that the accused do not get any chance to temper the evidence related to the crime of cruelty to the animal.
It is also noteworthy that the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia pursues a strict criminal law policy on animal cruelty crimes. On the initiative of the prosecutor’s office, a draft of legislative amendments to be introduced in Article 259 of the Criminal Code was prepared, based on which the punishment for the crimes of animal torture and cruel treatment was tightened.
Notably in the past few months many incidents related to animal cruelty have been recorded in many parts of the country. Law enforcement agencies warned the people.
