Georgia: PM Garibashvili visits Egypt for 27th Climate Change Conference

Georgia: Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili has reached the Arab Republic of Egypt to attend the 27th Climate Change Conference. Garibashvili received a warm welcome with a ceremony at the Sharm El Sheikh International Airport.

Georgia: Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili has reached the Arab Republic of Egypt to attend the 27th Climate Change Conference. Garibashvili received a warm welcome with a ceremony at the Sharm El Sheikh International Airport.

The Head of Government, Rania Al-Mashati, the Minister for International Cooperation of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Ambassador of Emergency and Plenipotentiary to the Arab Republic, Mikheil Tigishvili, met at the airport.

As part of his visit, Irakli Gharibashvili will be taking a part in the World Leaders’ Summit at the 27th UN Climate Change Conference. The Prime Minister is in Sharm El Sheikh with the delegation.

Prime Minister Garibashvili was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili and Head of Government Administration Revaz Javelidze in his delegation.

 While attending the summit, Garibashvili will address the world leaders and focus on ways to tackle climate change challenges the world is currently facing.

As per the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change( UNFCCC) schedule for the summit, the opening ceremony of the Sharm-el-Sheikh Climate Implementation summit will commence on November 7 in Plenary Nefertiti.

 The event will have in attendance, His excellency Mr Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, The President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, The Secretary General of the United Nations, Mr Antonio Guterres, The Heads of State and Government, Mr Simon Stiell, The UNFCCC Executive Secretary along with the specially invited guests from various countries.

The United Nations Climate Change Conferences act as a platform for multilateral discussions on global climatic changes. The Conference of Parties (COP) works over two major objectives

– Reviewing the implementation of the convention, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement

– Adapt the decisions and thereby provide for the further development, execution and implementation of these key instruments.
