Irakli Shotadze the Prosecutor General of Georgia met with Bekir Shahin Prosecutor General of Turkey. The important meeting was held at the office of the prosecutor general. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Prosecutor General of Georgia Natia Merebashvili, the head of the International Relations and Legal Assurance Department Irakli Chilingarashvili and members of the delegation of the Republic of Turkey.

At the meeting the Georgian Prosecutor General Irakli Shotadze informed their Turkish counterpart Bekir Shahin about the ongoing reforms and priority directions in the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia. On the other hand the Turkish prosecutor general Bekir Shahin shared information about the activities of his subordinate agency and the reforms carried out with his Georgian colleagues.

At the same time within the framework of the meeting the parties discussed issues of legal cooperation in the field of criminal law. They also agreed to boost cooperation for the criminal justice. They discussed transnational crime and agreed to enhance the bilateral mechanism so that this problem could be prevented at the grassroots level as well.

Speaking specifically Irakli Shotadze thanked the guest for his interest in the activities of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia and for sharing his experience. Due to the complex nature of cyber-related crime it was discussed that there is a need to adopt more measures for the early detection of cyber crimes across the countries as well as at the regional level for the entire Caucasus region.

It is worth mentioning that some criminals committed the crime and fled to another country due to which law enforcement agencies find it difficult to arrest such criminals.

At the end of the meeting the parties once again expressed their willingness to continue cooperation. The prosecutor’s office of Georgia also took to its social media pages and provided the information about this joint meeting. The social media users also support the initiative of the prosecutor’s office for this historic meeting among the prosecutor’s office and its representatives as well.
