Georgia: Prosecutor office charges two for  breach of privacy

The office of the prosecutor general of Georgia has charged two people. They are accused of illegally obtaining and keeping secrets of the personal lives of victims.

As per the information shared by the Prosecutor’s office on the Facebook page the Ministry of Internal Affairs investigated matter in this regard. As per the investigation, both accused illegally obtained the secrets of the private lives of various persons, in the form of video-audio recordings depicting sexual intercourse in the residential apartment belonging to M.I.

Moreover the Video-audio recording devices were secretly installed with the help of which illegal recording of MI’s intimate relationship with various persons was done secretly. There were dozens of recording devices installed in the apartment’s rooms, including the bedroom  and were secretly placed in various household appliances and items to capture the private moments.

The investigation also established that MI’s contact data was published on various adult sites. From 2019 to 2024 thousands of video-audio materials depicting the sexual intercourse of hundreds of different people were recorded. The investigation has already identified several persons whose private life records were illegally stored in the accused’s computer   and  other electronic information storage devices. The mentioned persons were given the status of victims by law enforcement agencies.

At the same time one of the defendants illegally stored ammunition, 30 cartridges of military special purpose in the residential house.  Both persons were charged with the first part of Article 157¹ of the Criminal Code of Georgia (infringement of the secret of private life), and one of them was also charged with the third part of Article 236 (illegal acquisition and storage of combat material). The crime is punishable by 4 to 7 years of imprisonment if the accused person is found guilty of the crime.

The office has already applied to the court to detain the accused as a preventative measure. The investigation of the criminal case in the Ministry of Internal Affairs continues.
