Based on the evidence presented by the prosecutor’s office, the director of “Smile Travel Georgia” was sentenced to 8 years, and an employee of the same company was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
The Prosecution Service of Georgia shared glimpses of the arrest made by the Police on its official Facebook Page on June 30, 2-26, Tuesday. The Georgian Prosecution Service also shared a small note about the crime committed by them along with the glimpses of their arrest.
Tbilisi City Court shared the evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office and found the accused guilty of fraudulently taking large amounts of money belonging to citizens.
According to the evidence presented at the court process, it was confirmed that the founder and director of the travel company “Smile Travel Georgia”, along with the company’s employee, intended to defraud a large amount of money belonging to citizens.
The company placed advertisements for travel tours in foreign countries on a social network. Accordingly, the concerned citizens, at various times, have ordered the accused to organize travel abroad, which included the provision of two-way air tickets, transfers, hotel accommodation, travel insurance, luggage, and other travel-related services. The defendants did not provide the implementation of the specified services and deceitfully acquired a large amount belonging to 200 citizens, in total – 1 008 013 GEL.
The accused will be charged under Article 180 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, Article 2 “a”, 3 “a” and “b” sub-positions (fraud, i.e., possession of someone else’s item by deception, made by a group under prior agreement, using employment status, in large quantities).
The court found both defendants guilty of the charges presented and sentenced the company director to 8 years in prison, and the second accused was sentenced to 7 years in prison.
