Tbilisi, Georgia: The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has brought charges against a person for sale of illegal firearms. The arrest was made on Sunday, May 25. The suspect has been charged with intentional homicide and illegal purchase, storage and carrying of firearms.
The Georgian Prosecution Service posted out the details of the crime to its official Facebook Page. The Service also shared some photos taken during the time of the arrest made by them.
The police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this case. The investigation revealed that, in 2018-2019, the accused purchased and registered various firearms. He used three of them illegally against various individuals.
Notably, one of the firearms was used to kill Levan Jangveladze and seriously injure his driver on Chavchavadze Avenue in Tbilisi on March 14, 2025.
However, the Law enforcement officers arrested the defendant on May 24. The suspect was identified as Gela Udzilauri. He has been arrested for the murder of Levan Jangveladze and the attempted murder of his driver.
As per the details shared by the Prosecutor’s Office, Udzilauri is charged with 2 articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia:
Article 19 (Subparagraphs ‘b’ and ‘l’) – attempted intentional murder committed against two persons by means that endanger the life and health of others)
Article 236 (Parts Three and Four) – illegal acquisition, storage, and carrying of firearms
It should also be noted that the Prosecutor’s Office has petitioned the court to impose imprisonment as a preventive measure against the defendant.
It is noted that the Georgia’s law enforcement agencies are working together to address the issue of rising crime. Also, they are running seminars and workshops to inform the public of the tough legal measures and at the same time are seeing that the laws are being made stricter. This in turn will deter accused from breaking the law out of fear of the penalty.
