Georgia: A two-day working meeting was held between the Georgian Public Defender’s Office and the Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia. The meeting was held within the framework of the EU project “Support of the Public Defender of Georgia“.
The Personal Data Protection Service of Georgia (PDPS) shared a glimpse of the meeting on its official Facebook page on Friday, August 1, 2025. The PDPS also shared a small note about the event along with its photographs.
The event was opened by Georgian Public Defender Levan Ioseliani and Head of Personal Data Protection Service (PDPS) Lela Janashvili with a welcome speech. Lela Janashvili stressed the importance of a partnership between the two institutions and the need for effective cooperation in the field of human rights protection, including personal data protection.
According to the small note shared by the Georgian Personal Data Protection Service, it should be noted that the meeting served as a platform to discuss current legal and institutional challenges in safeguarding personal data in the digital age. Participants noted the growing relevance of data protection in light of rapid technological advancements and increasing public reliance on digital services.
During the meeting, the First Deputy of the Public Ombudsman, Tamar Gvaramadze, spoke about the mandate of the Public Ombudsman, specifics and features of the exercise of his powers. Otar Chakhunashvili, the First Deputy Head of the Personal Data Protection Service, presented a presentation on the topic: “Features of the implementation of authority: the status of personal data protection in Georgia; main concepts and trends of 2024”.
During the meeting, the staff of the service discussed the main trends of processing personal data in the public, private, and law enforcement sectors.
In part of the work meeting, participants discussed opportunities for deepening institutional collaboration and prospects for future joint initiatives.
