Tbilisi: Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili, together with the Minister of Agriculture of Adjara, Zaza Shavadze, met with representatives of the Association of Organic Aquaculture Development in Batumi.
The participants of the meeting discussed measures to identify challenges in the aquaculture sector in Batumi and the measures that can be adopted to increase the sustainability of fish production.
The talk also touched on the issue of strengthening the laboratory component of research on types of fish diseases, its causes, the preventive measures and necessary treatments, that leads to upliftment of the aquaculture sector in Georgia.
As Deputy Minister Solomon Pavliashvili stated, it is important for Georgia to develop local aquaculture production and integration into the international market, adding further that Georgia has great potential for the development of aquaculture. Our goal is to create high-quality products in Georgia with the support of the state and relevant structures”, – said Solomon Pavliashvili.
During the meeting, the ministers, about the issue of fish diseases, stated that the sickness in fishes has been the main obstacle in the development of this sector as it inhibits the creation of a healthy product.
It is noteworthy that the Director of the State Laboratory of Agriculture expressed his readiness that the laboratory has full readiness to implement new research methods and meet the demands of farmers.
The meeting was held with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Adjara SIP Laboratory Research Center, National Food Agency, Rural Development Agency, State Laboratory of Agriculture and the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.
