Georgia: State security service refutes threats of attack on capital, Tbilisi

The State Security Service of Georgia has refuted any threat that is being spread through a video to attacks the educational institutions and shopping malls of the capital, Tbilisi.

The State Security Service of Georgia has refuted any threat that is being spread through a video. In a video that is circulating on social media, there was apprehension about the attacks on educational institutions and shopping malls of the capital, Tbilisi.

While sharing the information about these fake videos on the official Facebook page the service stated that “On April 21, this year in connection with the information spread in social networks in particular the Internet application Telegram about the placement of possible explosive devices and expected attacks in educational institutions and shopping malls across, the counterterrorist units of the State Security Service checked throughout the night and conducted the search operation. As a result of special counterterrorist measures no kind of explosive substance or device has been detected”.

The representative of the agency while assureing the general public not to be panic advised the public to check the authenticity of the videos before sharing them with others.

Moreover any fake information on the social media platform about any law and order or security issue must be brought to the notice of law enforcement agencies as well.

After the announcement of the search operation by the service and claims that nothing suspicious is detected people thanked the dedication of service towards the security of the nation.

At the same time, social media users while reacting to the post of state security service gave a mixed response. Some people expressed their full trust in the efficiency of law enforcement agencies whereas some feared that the threat of cyber crime may be the biggest challenge for security agencies in the future.

One Facebook user Mazmishvili Lali expressing concern about the safety of her children commented “It’s very good that you have checked all the possible target areas but the screenshots that went viral say there will be bombings and shootings. If that unfortunate incident happens in that case how can we protect our children? we did not send them to school today what will happen tomorrow and the day after tomorrow”.

Similarly many other users commented their advice to upgrade the security infrastructure of the country to tackle the growing security threats.
