Georgia: On the fourth day of the 17th Summer Paralympic Games in Paris, Georgian Paralympic athlete Giga Ochkhikidze won a gold medal at her debut Paralympics.
The current world champion Georgian climber again celebrated the championship in Birtis Kvra and brought a gold medal at the Georgian Paralympics. He was able to jump at 9.66 meters and set a world record.
It should be noted that after the protest of the Paralympic Delegations of Iran, Morocco, and Poland, the Georgian athletes’ results—9.21 and 9.66 meters—were canceled. However, the President of the Georgian Paralympic Committee, Rati Ionatamishvili, and other committee representatives immediately wrote a complaint related to the cancellation of the results, which was satisfied by the tournament’s main referees.
Giga Ochkhikidze’s award is the sixth medal in the history of the Paralympic Games for Georgia. Notably, Georgia won a trophy for the first time in the Paralympics and Olympics in the core competition. At the same time, Giga Ochkhikidze is the first athlete in the history of independent Georgia to win a medal in endurance at the Paralympics and Olympics.
At the Paris Paralympic Games R5 category, Lado Chincharauli competed in the 10-meter throw of pneumatic Shashkhan. He scored 632.4 points, which was not enough to reach the final. Eight athletes with the best results won the right to compete in the final.
Georgian para shooters will compete in 50-meter shooting in the R9 category on September 4. It is worth noting that Lado Chincharauli became European Vice-Champion in 2024 in the R9 category.
On September 2, the Georgian Paralympics will not compete. On September 3, wheelchair fenders Irma Khetsuriani (fencing with clay, category B) and Nino Tibilashvili (faring with clay, category A) will participate in the battle for medals.
Georgia has two medals so far in the Paris Paralympic Games. On August 29, 19-year-old parataekwondoist Ana Japaridze won the bronze medal at the debut Paralympics.
