As per the annual report to the Georgian Parliament by Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili on Monday, March 14, she said Georgia has stood and still stands with Ukraine and the people of Ukraine amid the ongoing war in the country.

In Parliament, President stated the “selfless struggle” of the people of Ukraine against the Russian aggression “only evokes in our respect, solidarity and support.”

Furthermore, Zourabichvili told the MPs, today we’re noticing horrific scenes: hospitals, children’s oncology hospitals, schools and kindergartens, even churches attacked by Russia; the evacuation of the elderly and pregnant women, the relentless struggle of Ukrainian troops or civilians defending their land.

In her address, Zourabichvili also stated that Georgians had the “greatest understanding” of what the Ukrainian nation was experiencing amid the Russian invasion.

Ukraine and Georgia have crossed the same path: the path of liberation from the Russian Empire. The history of Georgia, as well as the history of Ukraine, is one of pride and dedication. Today, we see a miracle determination in Ukraine, which, in my opinion, can only result in Ukraine’s victory, said the President.

Moreover, the Georgian President praised the Prime Minister’s comments on Georgia’s EU membership application and the resolution on the country’s accession to the Union that is being worked on by the legislative body, while also calling on MP’s to adopt the resolution unanimously.

President suggested to the political establishment these initiatives be united in a single document that would support the country’s application for membership, noting that such a move would demonstrate “full unity” around the topic and would be delivered to the EU.

She also proposed a position of the Minister of State for EU Integration and a relevant office – which could be staffed from the opposition – be created “immediately”.
