Georgia: Tbilisi residents will be able to link public transport season passes to bank cards

In Georgia, Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated on Tuesday, March 29, that people living in the capital city of Georgia, Tbilisi, will be able to link their season passes for public transport to their bank cards starting in May.

In Georgia, Mayor Kakha Kaladze stated on Tuesday, March 29, that people living in the capital city of Georgia, Tbilisi, will be able to link their season passes for public transport to their bank cards starting in May.

As per the sources, the decision taken by the Mayor for passengers would eliminate the need to carry an extra card, explaining details of the service would be released once at its launch.

In February, a new fare system for public transport in Tbilisi went into effect, with up to 55,000 season passes of various duration sold so far. 

Moreover, on January 5, ticket offices and Metro stations began selling “unlimited” passes, with season tickets also being sold in Bank of Georgia’s express branches and Tbilisi Metro machines.

Commuters may pick between a one-day unlimited travel card to a one-year transit ticket following the system’s launch by Tbilisi City Hall.

In the new system, passengers can pick between unlimited 90-minute, single-day, one-week cards and options for several month-long cards and a year-long pass.

  • Unlimited 1-day card will cost 3 GEL, with cardholders able to travel by any type of public transport throughout the day
  • Unlimited 1-week card will cost 20 GEL
  • Unlimited 1-month card will cost passengers 40 GEL
  • Unlimited 3-month card will be on sale for 100 GEL
  • Unlimited 6-month card cost will be 150 GEL
  • Unlimited 1-year card will cost 250 GEL
