Georgia: Georgian Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze on Monday claims that the information that Mikheil Saakashvili is not receiving proper medical care is not true.

Bregadze told the sources that former president Saakashvili is provided with three meals a day, as well as access to the penitentiary shop. He was also allowed to receive parcels from the people that he mentioned.

Saakashvili is provided with three meals a day, he has been provided with the option to buy any kind of food from the wide range of available items in the prison shop, and he has the right to receive parcels, and he receives it on a regular basis. “It is an absolute lie and a purposeful campaign against the prison service, Bregadze said.

Justice minister also added that about 800 individuals have recently paid a visit to Saakashvili.

During this period, he had about 800 visitors, which is clear evidence that we do not hide from anyone, and we do not conceal his condition from anyone.

According to him, Saakashvili was also provided with the right to walk in the penitentiary centre, which, according to him, he does not use. Bregadze claims that imprisoned former President does not selectively take medicine.

He has the right to be in the fresh air and walk, but he does not use it at his own discretion. He is also fully provided with all the medicines he needs, although Saakashvili does not selectively receive a certain list of medicines. “He needs the medicine he needs, Bregadze said.

The family members and the legal team of Mikheil Saakashvili are demanding from the Government about the trasnferring of his medical treatment to abroad. According to them, Saakashvili is not receiving appropriate medical treatment/care in Georgia. The family has requested the government until 6 a.m. Monday to agree with this request to shift him abroad.
