Fires in Borjomi almost extinguished, says Georgian Interior Ministry

Tbilisi: The major forest fire near the resort city of Borjomi in Georgia has almost been eliminated after weeks of firefighting, as stated by the Interior Minister of Georgia. As of now, most of the sources of fire in Borjomi have been put off. The strong winds and soaring temperatures have been disrupting the firefighting process.

As per the ministry, the helicopters of border police along with three specialized fire aircrafts of the Republic of Turkey have been involved in fire extinguishing purposes. The ministry has ensured every possible measure to combat the spread of fire to the residential areas. The Baku-Ceyhan pipeline is also reported to be totally safe. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported during the firefighting process.

Georgian Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan and Turkey for providing the required assistance in extinguishing the fire that broke out in the Borjomi forests.

“Today, three aircraft have been added to aviation. I want to thank the Turkish side, our friends, for this. Helicopters have been working since morning, but the weather interrupted the process as they could not work for several hours due to strong winds.

The Aviation forces, on the other hand, worked at the highest possible level, and the result was obvious, comparatively decreased the source of fire, the area of its spread,” he said.
