Georgian Basketball Federation thanks the organisers of ‘FIBA Eurobasket 2022’ in Tbilisi

Tbilisi: The Georgian Basketball Federation, on Friday, thanked everyone involved in organising FIBA Eurobasket 2022 in Tbilisi. The Government of Georgia, the sponsors, fans, media volunteers and everyone who led to the success of the Group A games in the capital city for the very first time.

Tbilisi: The Georgian Basketball Federation, on Friday, thanked everyone involved in organising FIBA Eurobasket 2022 in Tbilisi. The Government of Georgia, the sponsors, fans, media volunteers and everyone who led to the success of the Group A games in the capital city for the very first time.

The capital city Tbilisi, drew the attention from across the world as it co-hosted the FIBA EuroBasket 2022, the European continent’s major basketball event from September 1-7. The games of the competition’s Group A between the national teams of Georgia, Spain, Türkiye, Belgium, Bulgaria and Montenegro were held in Tbilisi Arena.

The newly built Tbilisi Arena is a multifunctional complex that can accommodate at least 10,000 spectators at a time.

From Group A, Spain, Turkiye, Belgium and Montenegro made it through, while Georgia and Bulgaria couldn’t succeed in qualifying for the next stages of the game.

The Georgian Basketball Federation noted that the European Championship has always been an important worldwide event for the country that brings hundreds of thousands of spectators and fans together in the stadiums while millions of viewers watching telecasts on TV. Hosting such an event has made Tbilisi a centre of sports tourism in September, along with Milan, Cologne, Berlin and Prague.

The city of Tbilisi had welcomed well-known sports journalists and bloggers with the fans of the participating teams, high-ranking guests and delegations from various governments.
FIBA also thanked all the capital cities which co-hosted the EuroBasket, including the capital city of Tbilisi.

Georgia also celebrated the 100th anniversary of Georgian Basketball while the country hosted the basketball festival, EuroBasket, which the federation called to be a pleasant symbolic coincidence.

Also, the International Basketball Federation has awarded the Georgian Basketball Federation for the ‘excellent organisation of the FIBA Under 20 European Basketball Championship for Division B.
