Tbilisi: Kakha Kaladze, the mayor of Tbilisi, on Monday, regarding the Vake Park incident, stated that he himself would decide on when to report at Tbilisi city assembly to answer the questions that rose over the fatal electrocution incident, claiming the life of a 13-year old girl and injured two others.

“I have never backed down from cooperation with the opposition, never. Even though the city council was newly elected, when I arrived, I immediately expressed my willingness to cooperate, but cooperation cannot be one-sided. Therefore, we remember their attitude, statements, insults, and slander. As for coming to the council, I will decide that. I will come when necessary and answer all kinds of questions when there is time and necessity”, he said.

Talking about the investigation, it is currently underway. In case something new comes up during the investigation, believe me, an appropriate response will follow”, Kaladze added.

Nine individuals, including the deputy head of the Tbilisi city hall environmental agency, have been detained for professional negligence. The head of the agency has also resigned from the office.

Meanwhile, the opposition has lashed out against mayor Kaladze, asking him to take all the responsibility and resign from the post of mayor.

The tragedy took place at the newly re-opened Vake Park on 13th October when a 13-year-old girl was electrocuted from a fountain while trying to retrieve a ball from it. Two other minors also sustained injuries along with the girl but somehow managed to survive.
