Munich security conference: PM Irakli Garibashvili meets US Congressman Eric Slowell

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili met American Congressman Eric Slowell. The meeting was held in Munich within the framework of the security conference. The parties discussed possibilities of further deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries and the measures to be taken in that direction.

Tbilisi: The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili met American Congressman,Eric Slowell. The meeting was held in Munich within the framework of the security conference. The parties discussed possibilities of further deepening the strategic partnership between the two countries and the measures to be taken in that direction.

From the Day of the Restoration of Independence, the important help of the United States towards the democratic development, economic prosperity and security of Georgia has been emphasized.

The conversation also touched on the agenda of the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia and the strong support of the United States in this direction. While talking about the security environment in the region, the situation in the occupied regions of Georgia was highlighted, once again the important role of the US in the process of peaceful resolution of the conflict.

 The Prime Minister thanked the American side for keeping the issue of Georgia on a high international political agenda and in various international or bilateral formats for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

Once again, the special role of Georgia in ensuring peace and stability in the region was highly appreciated.

The meeting also stressed the importance of the legislative body’s support to further strengthen the US-Georgian strategic partnership. The Georgian side especially noted the strong bipartisan support of the US Congress, which has been expressed in several resolutions or legislative acts in recent years and expressed hope that this support will continue actively in the future. 

The parties also talked about the necessity for deepening economic cooperation between the countries and the important role of the US legislature in this regard.

 Irakli Gaaribashvili also met the highest commander of the Allied Forces in Europe, the head of the European Army of the United States, General Christopher Kavoli, within the framework of the Munich Security Conference.

The meeting noted the long-term strategic partnership between Georgia and the USA. The U.S. highlighted the great assistance over the years to strengthen the country’s democratic institutions, build self-defense capacity and promote economic growth. The parties discussed prospects for future cooperation.

The meeting talked about US support to increase Georgia’s defense capabilities and noted the country’s contribution to overall Euro-Atlantic security. The Head of Government thanked the General for supporting the Euro-Atlantic integration process of the country.

According to the Prime Minister, Georgia is and will remain the most reliable and loyal ally of the United States in the region and beyond. It was said that Georgia welcomes more active US involvement and investments in ensuring security of the Black Sea region and economic development and connectivity.
