Georgia: PM chaired Economic Council session

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of the Republic of Georgia, chaired the session of the Economic Council. The main objective of the session was to discuss compeleted and ongoing infrastructure projects, including railway projects, the anaklia deepwater port and to support development project of Georgia.

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of the Republic of Georgia, chaired the session of the Economic Council. The main objective of the session was to discuss compeleted and ongoing infrastructure projects, including railway projects, the anaklia deepwater port and to support development project of Georgia.

PrimemM Minister, while Speaking about the Anaklia project, noted that in the year 2024, marine construction works will begin. The Name of the private partner will be revealed, with whom the construction agreement will be signed.

Prime Minister also said that In 2024, the construction of Anaklia port infrastructure will take place.

The discussion was also held about the construction of a new passenger terminal in Telavi; this terminal serves almost 50,000 passengers a year. During the discussion of the plan, it was underlined that the runway will be completely reconstructed of 1700 meters, it will also have modern navigation systems, and a new navigation tower will be built, as well as the internal and external infrastructure of the airport will be completely renovated, At the same time parking spaces and comfortable spaces for passengers will be arranged.

Telavi Airport will be ready to host the first passengers in 2024. As per the estimate the preliminary estimate, the investment needed for its development is 25 million GEL.

Prime Minister also paid attention to planned events at Kutaisi International Airport and emphasised that a 3.5 km wide runway will be built, which will be able to handle any size of aeroplanes, including cargo planes.

It is to be added that Work on the project was scheduled to be completed in December 2023, but it could not be completed due to some unavoidable reason.

Government members also discussed the railway modernisation project at this session. The reform of the rail transport sector and the implementation of the European model railway system will be completed in 2024, as per the information.

These reforms will increase the sector’s efficiency and reduce transportation time and costs, and the annual freight capacity of rail will reach 48 million tonnes.

During the session of this economic council, the consequences of the disaster in western Georgia were discussed. It was noted that the damage will be assessed in detail and the infrastructure will be restored in a short time. According to Irakli Garibashvili, no family will be left without help and aid. He also said that the government is committed to providing every possible assistance to these families.
