Tbilisi: Employees of the Emergency Management Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted theoretical and practical training in order to raise awareness about civil security among adolescents of school studednts with special educational needs in Tbilisi, Chiaturi, Kutaisi and Akhaltsikhe as well as in Rustavi Public School. This was to raise awareness of the measures in case of emergency situations.
It is specifically to be mentioned that the Department of Civil Safety staff introduced school teachers as well as school students to the rules of conduct during emergency situations in detail. During the training session, Firefighters and rescuers taught evacuation from the building for students with disabilities in an environment as close to reality as possible.
According to the Office of Emergency Management Services, every year, a large number of people lose their precious lives due to a lack of emergency rescue skills. Many times, natural calamities also cause huge losses to humans and property. Emergency situations like earthquakes, floods, and thunderstorms cause damage. But if people and local social organisations taught the measures to tackle such extreme situations then a huge loss of property and human lives can be mitigated.
At this training session, the school students got information with regard to various methods that can be implemented in case of an emergency situation. They were also apprised of the department that can be contacted in case of emergency.
Some members of the team were fully dressed in their duty dress. There was also a water tank of the fire department to held a mock drill. The present firefighter gave a demonstration to students on this occasion.
Similarly there was also a practical session for all the attendees’ students. The hall was full of students who were eager to know from firefighters various methods to rescue and evacuate in times of emergency situations.
Firefighters used a staircase to climb a tall building to show fire-dousing skills. Firefighters were also equipped with safety helmets as well as oxygen cylinders and gas masks to avoid extreme situations.
The Emergency Management Service actively cooperates with special educational needs schools and educational institutions for children with special needs, systematically delivering this type of training in previous years as well.
The representative of the Fire Department also said that such kind of training session will continue in future as well.
