Georgia: The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia honors the memory of the most famous Georgian poet Titsian Tabidze and their outstanding poetic career. 130 years have passed since the birth of Georgian symbolist poet, Titsian Tabidze, one of the founders of the literary group “Tisian Tabidze”.
It is noteworthy that Titsian Tabidze was born on April 2, 1895, in the village of Chkvishi. Titsian was admitted to the Kutaisi Classical Gymnasium at six, where he studied with Paolo Iashvili and Valerian Gafrindashvili. Then he graduated from the classical gymnasium and the Faculty of Philology of Moscow University. He returned to his homeland in 1917.
Biography is what it’s all about. On the other hand, work is rich and versatile – with poetry, prose, literary and public articles, translations…
“When reading Titian Tabidze’s poem, you get such a feeling as if you are directly touching human wounds. “- Written by Guram Asatiani.
This is why we will always remember his lines: “It is better not to have a homeland, or not to be so beautiful”; “I don’t write poems, the poem writes me”…
Great poets are distinguished because they feel and predict their destiny almost without mistake.
However, in one of the versions, they did not shoot, they came from the wagon into the Siberian trams and left in the snow and ice. They sacrificed him to death, but neither the bell of Zion nor the holy candle of Alaverdi were threatened in their soul. So, at least he survived death: rather than “black vodka meets white vodka”, Titian Tabidze’s poetry will also live.
It should be noted that in memory of the poets, Galaktion and Titian Tabidze House Museum was opened in the town of Chkvishi of Vani district in Georgia in 1983.
His immortal work and indelible mark in the richest Georgian poetry were honored by the Ministry of Culture of Georgia on April 2, 2025, Wednesday.
