Georgia: The Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Youth of Georgia honors Gabriel Jabushanuri’s memory and outstanding poetic career. 110 years have passed since the birth of Georgian poet Gabriel Jabushanuri.

Gabriel Jabushanuri’s poems were still published since the age of thirteen, and special attention was gained by his poem published in the magazine “Our Generation” in 1935. The first poetry collection “Aragviani” was published in 1940. It was followed by books: “Light in the Mountain,” “Lyrics,” “Country of the Sun,” “High Moon,” “Shadow and the Moon,” and “And Modesty.”

His unique and often tumultuous life deeply influenced Gabriel Jabushanuri’s poetry. His experiences, including the fate of the Ingush and Chechen people and his own displacement, added a rare depth and authenticity to his work.

He, like many other Georgians, was forced to leave his home and spent seventeen years in Gilgho. These years, filled with both hardship and inspiration, are vividly reflected in the documentary dedicated to his life and work.

One of the most significant recognitions of Gabriel Jabushanuri’s poetry came when his poem was printed by Zviad Gamsakhurdia in his illegal “Golden Certificate”. This act not only acknowledged the poet’s talent but also underscored his influence on Georgian literature.

A Georgian reader fell in love with several of Gabriel Jabushanuri’s poems and exceptionally grabbed this line and remembered: “Goodbye! I’ll come, Mom. Arkhot gave birth to my bluejay’s Tory.” This “Tori” has Georgian poetry, too.

“Suffering was inseparable from Mogosni” – this line can describe Gabriel Jabushanuri’s fate, indicating his deep emotional and personal struggles throughout his life and how they influenced his poetry.

The well-known poet, fifty-four years old, was killed by the incurable Sen. He was buried in the Didube Pantheon of writers and social activists.
