Georgia: The National Agency of the Public Register of the Ministry of Justice will create the first multifunctional national geoportal of the National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI).
According to the Georgian law “National Space Data Infrastructure (NSDI),” the government has established a coordination council led by the Ministry of Justice. The National Agency of Public Register of SP performs the coordinator’s function.
The Public Register hosted the opening event of creating the National Spatial Data Infrastructure, which representatives of all ministries and relevant agencies attended.
The main goal of the meeting was to formulate an action plan by the Coordination Council, a body established to ensure a structured and coordinated approach to the NSDI. The event was opened by the First Deputy Minister of Justice Tamar Tkeshelashvili, underscoring the government’s commitment to this initiative.
“The goal of the state is, on the one hand, to create a national spatial data infrastructure and, on the other hand, to make this infrastructure compatible with the EU spatial information (INSPIRE) infrastructure, on which all agencies will work closely” – stated the first deputy of the minister.
The Chairman of the Public Register – David Devidze – provided detailed information about the importance of national spatial infrastructure and the creation of a geo portal for the attending community. On this portal, spatial data manufacturing entities will place and make available publicly all spatial data in Georgia. As a result, state agencies and citizens can identify and download authentic data from all manufacturers of spatial objects in the country through one window.
The proper functioning of the national spatial infrastructure is essential for the development of electronic governance and public administration. It plays a crucial role in optimally and effectively managing fire, road accidents, natural disasters, emergency and rescue situations, and environmental risks. Unified Standard GeoPortal data availability will help optimize process management for both the public and private sectors.
