Georgian NFA uses Slovenian method for safe work in forests

Georgia: The Slovenian method is being used to implement a wide-scale training program on safe work in forests for the employees of the National Forest Agency (NFA).

The training is underway within the framework of the project “Sustainable Forest Management in Adigeni Municipality, Phase II”. Notably, the Center for International Cooperation and Development of the Republic of Slovenia (CMSR) is a key financial supporter of the project.

The project’s second phase is especially important for developing sustainable forest management in Adigeni municipality. Along with field training, by Slovenian practice, forest roads, and ecotourism infrastructure – walking trails, camps, and picnic areas will be arranged.

It is noteworthy that within the framework of the project “Sustainable Forest Management in Adigene Municipality, Phase I”, significant progress has been made. Inventory works have been carried out on 33 836 ha in Adigene municipality, forest management and recreational development plans have been prepared, and the “busy yard” is now equipped with the necessary equipment for effective operation.

The project “Sustainable Forest Management in Adigeni Municipality” is a collaborative effort, being implemented with the financial support of the Slovenian Government, representatives of the World Nature Foundation (WWF) Caucasus Program Consortium and Zavita Consulting.

The main goals of the project are to improve the socio-economic conditions of local communities united in Sustainable Forest Management and Environmental Agreements in Adigeni Municipality, through measures such as increased employment opportunities and enhanced environmental protection.

The total budget of the project is 1,099,940 euros. The contribution of the National Forest Agency to the project is 551,500 euros, and the volume of the grant money, in total, is 548,440 euros.

Adigeni Municipality

Adigeni is a municipality in Georgia’s southern region of Samtskhe-Javakheti. It covers an area of about 799.5 km². As of 2021, it had a population of 16,092 people. The administrative center of Adigeni is in the borough.
