The member of Georgian police force has used water cannons and other methods to disperse people from protest site. The protesters are opposing the decision of Georgian government to suspend action for integration into the European Union.
It is worth to note that European Union grated status of candidate country to Georgia. This was hailed a first step of Georgia towards its integration in the European Union. However recent decision of Georgia to suspend efforts in this direction till 2028 created huge controversy across the whole country.
The huge number of protesters are holding such protest rallies in central Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia. This is being held outside the building of national Parliament. The officials of Ministry of internal affairs have stated that, the protesters are using violent measures against the members of law enforcement agencies.
As per official they have been using dangerous object while protesting. They have been using the glass bottles, pyrotechnics as well as stones in the protest rallies. The official added that to prevent any harm we have deployed number of teams equipped with water cannons along with other anti-riots instruments.
The protesters as well as law enforcers confronted many times while trying to remove protesters from protest site. As the protesters were confronted with police they began to move towards the Opera and Ballet state theatre and then marched towards Chavchavadze avenue.
One of Prominent human rights watchdog of Georgia namely The Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association has condemned police action. As per statement of association, police are using many illegal and unethical measures to curb the peaceful protests in Tbilisi. They added that this is clear violation of right to protest which is granted under constitution of Georgia.
Meanwhile the injured protesters are being shifted into medical facilities. The latest reports of health ministry revealed that, today 26 injured people have been hospitalised. This includes 23 protesters along with three member of law enforcement agencies.
The heath ministry said, all necessary assistance is being offered to be injured. Moreover, employees of the emergency Coordination and Urgent Assistance Centre are offering health services.
