Tbilisi: The Ministry of Internal affairs of Georgia expressed serious concern on rule and regulation’s violation by protestors. The official warned all protestors to follow legal provisions and hold protest rallies as per law.
It is worth to note in the protests over foreign agents law few months ago protestors also taken law into their hand. The law enforcement agencies have used the strict action against protestors.
The ministry of internal affairs has taken to social media handles to share information in this regard as well. As per the official Facebook post of internal affair ministry, “Despite numerous appeals from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the rally on Rustaveli Avenue in the vicinity of the Parliament building, repeatedly exceeded the norms established by the Law on Assembly and Manifestation.”
At the same time it also underlined that, “Throughout the night, the members of the rally verbally and physically confronted the police. The individuals on Rustaveli Avenue threw various objects, stones, pyrotechnics, glass bottles and iron objects at the law enforcement officers.”
The official of Ministry also added that, because of the violent actions of the rally participants, 10 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs were injured. Until now one police officer remains in a medical facility, suffering from burns in various parts of his body.
The public clearly saw the violent, illegal actions of the rally participants on various TV broadcasts. Despite numerous calls the people gathered in the area surrounding the legislative body damaged the infrastructure of the Tbilisi Municipality and private individuals, the protective fence of the parliament, set fire to various items and wires, erected barricades, damaged the entrance gate of the parliament and video surveillance cameras.
In order to restore law and order the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs used special means established by law. Moreover, to bring the situation under control 107 people were detained by law enforcement officers for disobeying the lawful request of a police officer and for petty hooliganism in accordance with Articles 166 and 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
