Georgia: The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has filed charges against a person for the intentional murder. The murder took place in the village of Chumlaki of Gurjaani municipality, of the country. The office is investigating the matter further to bring the culprits to justice.
The Prosecution Service of Georgia shared these details with the public through its social media handles on April 24, 2025. It should be noted that the employees of the Tbilisi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this crime.
According to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was revealed that on April 20, in the village of Chumlaki of Gurjaani municipality, the accused shot the victim several times with a firearm and fled the scene. The victim died in hospital as a result of the injuries sustained.
The investigation also found that two more persons at the scene suffered health injuries during the shooting. The Law enforcement officers arrested the accused on April 22.
The accused was charged in absentia under Article 109, Subparagraph “b” (intentional murder under aggravating circumstances, by means that intentionally endangers the health of another person) and Article 236, Parts 3 and 4 (illegal acquisition, storage and carrying of firearms and ammunition) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for a sentence of 16 to 20 years or life imprisonment.
The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office will apply to the court within the time limit established by law with a motion to impose imprisonment on the accused as a preventive measure.
It is to be specifically mentioned that law enforcement agencies of Georgia are working in collaboration to tackle the country’s increasing crime rate. The law enforcers are also organizing seminars and workshops to inform people about the strict legal provisions. At the same time, legal provisions are being made more strict so that accused persons can be prevented from committing offenses due to fear of the law.
