The Director of Georgian maritime transport agency, Alexi Akhvlediani, and deputy director Kristina Rzgoeva took part in the third maritime summit in Turkey on Tuesday, July 2 , 2024. The summit was held to discuss the future of the maritime field’s future strategies, forecasts, goals and policies.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the symposium discussed the various possibilities and challenges, taking into account the current situation and trends. Moreover on the sidelines of the main symposium a separate session was devoted to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from ships.
Director of Georgian Maritime Transport Agency Alexi Akhvlediani during his speech at the session underscored the strong and stable relations and cooperation between Georgia and Turkey in the maritime field. He also termed the bilateral maritime relations between both countries very exemplary and expressed hopes that they will be further deepened which will contribute to the development of the maritime sector of both countries.
On the other hand the Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization Arsenio Dominguez, also participated in the summit. He expressed his hope that the parties active involvement will bring us closer to solving the existing problems and will create a better perspective in the maritime field in the future.
It is worth noting that the summit was held under the auspices of and under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu opened that summit on the first day.
He highlighted the importance of the summit and said that this would provide both countries with a better opportunity to bring about strategic change in their maritime policies. He also added that with the organization of this summit for the third time we want Turkey to take a lead role in the field of maritime security.
The summit participants also discussed the issues of the coastal facility infrastructure and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to prevent environmental loss. Moreover the logistics performance of the countries was also discussed in detail by all the attendee countries as well.
