The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, has signed a decree declaring the election for Parliament. This signing of the decree begins the formal process of elections to parliament.
Yesterday, after signing the ceremony the President hit back at Georgian Dream for threatening the Georgian citizens. As per the President the ruling regime is responsible for banning dissent. She further added that this is important to be part of a transparent election.
She said, this is a time when the Georgian people have a great responsibility to choose the party that has the potential to lead the nation to the next level. She also encouraged the citizens to leave home and vote in maximum numbers for a better future for the country.
In his address he states that this is not a normal election as conducted in the past. Rather this election will be a referendum on the future of Georgia. Through this election, people will have to decide whether they want to go with Europe or Russia.
It is time to select from “past or progress,” “dictatorship or democracy,” “freedom or slavery,” “one-party power or multi-party government,” “dignity or no principles,” “independence or occupation,” and “Christian tolerance or Russian violence etc.”
This is a very rare opportunity for the Georgian people to elect their leader peacefully. The country’s citizens do not want any external or internal conflicts. They just want good governance and protection of their rights against threats.
President Zurabishvili vehemently rejected the statements made by Ivanishvili in his April 29 speech terming it a declaration of war against the Georgian people without any justifiable reason. She assured the public that the upcoming election will play a crucial role in determining the country’s future, defending the values of a European, democratic and free society.
As per her the Georgian Dream is trying to impose a single-party rule. This will be very dangerous for the personal liberty and other rights of citizens as well. Moreover the adoption of the foreign agents law despite the veto is a reflection of this trend.
